Muffins generally have two types. This includes the sweet muffin and the English muffin; both of which are equally popular and loved by many. Sweet muffin is the type of muffin which somewhat resembles a cup cake. The base is commonly cylindrical while the top part has a distinct round conical shape. These muffins are like small cakes and is usually mixed and baked with ingredients such as chocolate chips and blueberries among many others

On the other hand, an English muffin is a baked good which is characterized by its disk shape. They are commonly bread like and are served as breakfast sandwiches usually with ham, sausages, egg or cheese. It can also be served with fruit preserved such as strawberry jam or orange marmalade. English muffins in Britain are commonly served during tea time. In North America, it is usually eaten during breakfasts.

English muffins are yeast leavened bread. They are made from kneaded dough flour, mixed with milk, sugar, salt and yeast. The dough is then shaped and rolled out into a disk. It is then left to rise. The dough is then cooked in a lightly greased hot surface by frying it in a griddle or pan.

English muffins have been around since 1747. The term English muffin was named from an English Baker named Samuel Bath Thomas who lived in New York City. Bath Thomas then started producing his version of muffins around 1880. Since then the English muffin grew popularity and is still being enjoyed by many.

Currently, English muffins are now being served in many fast food restaurants in both US and Canada. They are commonly served as part of their breakfast menu. The popular fast food chain McDonald's serve a variety of muffin sandwiches such as McDonald's Egg McMuffin, Sausage McMuffin, Sausage and Egg McMuffin and Ham McMuffin.
